Position Overview

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the organization's new, state-of-the art online scholarship marketplace platform. MyScholarShop (MSS) allows Step Up For Students' scholarship families to purchase educational products and services using their scholarship accounts. The product manager will be directly responsible for ensuring the success of the product launch including but not limited to, communications management, change management, business soundness and customer delight. This position is responsible for the ongoing daily operation of the product. He/she will continually identify and implement business rules for all programs that use the platform in an operational environment. In addition, this person will be directly responsible for a team of people who are dedicated to the product success. This person will work with other functional business units to assess business needs, document requirements and evaluate solutions for the current use and future evolution of the product. It requires a high degree of leadership talent, business acumen, financial understanding and complex problem solving. Must have the ability to motivate and lead a high performing team where quality and customer service are at the forefront. Must have the ability to think strategically and manage the evolving product roadmap. Must effectively and efficiently manage the daily tactical priorities without losing sight of strategic timelines. Must be business savvy and establish networks and relationships to convince and persuade others to get what you need for optimal business results. Must have a high degree of emotional intelligence. This includes having high empathy for others, the ability to be self-aware and self-manage and the ability to foster and grow important relationships. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Operations with job duties and priorities set by the Vice President of Strategy and Innovation.

Essential Functions

  • Creates and shares a strategic product roadmap that specifies the current and future state of the product.
  • Creates and manages product rules to ensure they match with program needs.
  • Creates a catalog of product offerings and services by gathering information and meeting with internal and external customers on an on-going basis.
  • Reviews product offerings and requirements; evaluates new product ideas and collects customer business requests.
  • Possesses strong organizational and analytical skills including the ability to understand financial systems and workflows.
  • Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports.
  • Ensures that the voice of the customer is always first when developing new product offerings and solutions.
  • Is the primary liaison to the third-party vendor. Discusses product performance, identifies and works on issue resolution and evaluates new features to meet customer need.
  • Continually assesses product performance by working directly with the customers (families, suppliers and internal staff) to evaluate the effectiveness, usefulness and quality of the product.
  • Provides clear and concise business update reports to senior management.
  • Prepares reports that show the short-term and long-term product results based on customer feedback, evaluation of internal operational efficiencies and other benchmarks.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance and regulatory soundness within the product offering.
  • Has supervisory responsibility for team members who may directly report to a functional business unit. Must be able to work in a matrix organization.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Maintains product management staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains product management staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a business-related field from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Online E-commerce, cloud based financial systems or procurement experience preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position directly manages a team of people who will be dedicated to the project, but may have a reporting relationship to another manager.  This position may have functional management responsibility as well.

Physical Demands

This position regularly requires the abilities of sitting, fingering or manual dexterity, climbing, walking, lifting,  grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm.  This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Some out-of-area and overnight travel is expected. 

Work Environment

This position is an office environment with very limited exposure to any outside fumes, odors, heat and/or weather conditions.
